Two suspects shot dead during foiled robbery at JHB school

Two suspects have been shot dead after a foiled robbery at Edenvale High School on Thursday afternoon.

It's understood that one suspect entered through the main gate, claiming to be fetching a child, while five other suspects stormed the school.

The perpetrators are said to have held a group of female admin staff at gunpoint while demanding money from the school's safe.

Eyewitness News reporter Kgomotso Modise has been reporting live from the scene.

The principal says the criminals tried to make their way into his office and that is when the emergency button had already been pressed, CPS had been alerted and the police made their way into the school.

Two of the suspects were declared dead on the scene. Three others have been arrested and an unknown number of suspects made their way away from the school. They fled in two different cars so we are inclined to think that there are two different suspects.

One perpetrator is suspected to be around the school.

Police vehicles have been frantically driving around the school. It is suspected this suspect was shot in the head, that is what we are hearing from some eyewitnesses. It is very busy here outside the school where a suspect is thought to be somewhere around the premises.

While counselling has been offered to pupils and victims at the school, learning has been suspended until Monday.
