Get up close and personal with Rugby World Cup's iconic Webb Ellis trophy

On Friday, Capetonians will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with rugby's Webb Ellis Cup.

The trophy is in the country as part of the build-up to the 18-nation 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan taking place in September.

Former Springbok Captain John Smit says Capetonians are afforded an opportunity to take selfies with the cup.

Smit is the last Springbok captain to successfully lift the Webb Ellis Cup for South Africa in 2007.

You never think you will have the opportunity twelve years after you've won to have a picture with it on Table Mountain.

I am a fan just like everyone else and without companies like Heineken bringing this trophy, we don't get to have these exciting moments and get to watch them. It's been a surreal couple of days with the trophy.

Here are the venues where you will be able to see the trophy on Friday:

  • Forresters Arms (Newlands) 15h30- 17h00
  • Rascals (Kenilworth) - 18h00 - 19h30
  • Premium Sports (Mitchells Plain) 20h30-22h00
