Eskom files criminal charges against Gupta-linked Tegeta

Eskom has filed criminal charges against Gupta-linked company Tegeta.

The power utility's board chair, Jabu Mabuza broke the news while testifying at the Zondo Commission on Friday.

Describing the state of the utility, Mabuza said Eskom was the main theatre for corruption and state capture.

He also gave details of how procurement processes were disregarded.

Eyewitness News reporter Clement Manyathela was at the commission.

Generally he has described the corruption that has been taking place and the action that the new board is trying to take to clean out the mismanagement at the utility.

Manyathela says the charges laid against Gupta-linked company Tegeta, were based on a Treasury report released late last year.

The report found that Eskom flouted company policy and public finance rules to favour Tegeta.

Jabu Mabuza confirming today that there are charges that have been filed by Eskom. This comes after that Treasury report where it found that Eskom had failed to follow the right processes, flouting company policy and public finance rules in favoring the Gupta-linked Tegeta by awarding it contracts of up to R1 billion.
