Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's job is safe, for now.
The Justice portfolio committee report says it would be premature to launch a process to remove
The Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) wanted an expedited inquiry into Mkhwebane's fitness to hold office.
But ANC and EFF MPs on Parliament’s Justice portfolio committee decided against it, report's EWN's Gaye Davis.
Davis says that the EFF sided with the ANC, in an about-turn, coming out in full support of Mkhwebane.
The committee met today to discuss the draft report which recommends that there is no need for this fast-tracked inquiry.

Last year, DA chief whip John Steenhuisen requested that an inquiry be held, following adverse court findings against Mkhwebane.
However, the committee report says it would be premature to launch a process to remove her from office.
This is because Mkhwebane is challenging a Constitutional Court’s order in a legal battl linked to one of the adverse judgments against her.
