Communications Committee to shortlist candidates for SABC board on Thursday
The Portfolio Committee on Communications is expected to shortlist 24 candidates to be interviewed to fill the eight vacancies at the board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), on Thursday.
The process of shortlisting candidates for the eight vacant slots was recently put on hold to give the committee time to first conduct exit interviews with those who resigned from the current board.
The committee has however changed its tune and will no longer conduct exit interviews.
The names of shortlisted candidates will be published on Parliament’s website for public comments and interviews will be conducted from 5 to 7 March 2019.
On Tuesday, Director at Media Monitoring Africa William Bird said they would be pursuing legal action to try and force Parliament to continue with the process. He says until the shortlisting is done, their lawyers will continue to draft the legal papers.
It is so frustrating that we meant to be building up to elections and have a to of other things to be dealing with then to be forcing Parliament to do its job.
