Is South Africa’s growth the reason for the electricity shortages? Bruce Whitfield interviews economist Dr Azar Jammine.

“The shortage of electricity is a sign of growth,” Deputy President David Mabuza told Parliament on Wednesday.

Members of Parliament (MPs) responded with laughter to Mabuza’s statement.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield asked Dr Azar Jammine (Chief Economist at Econometrix) if South Africa’s growth could be the reason for the electricity shortages.

The number of people to whom electricity is being distributed has increased by about 2 million people… That is not to say that the consumption of electricity has increased…
