[WATCH] Mango Groove's John Leydon and Claire Johnston in studio

Due to public demand, an extra night's been added to the Mango Groove 30th Anniversary Concert at the Teatro Theatre, Montecasino - they'll now also be performing on Saturday 9 March.

The group that became one of the country's most loved outfits, has produced a string of hits including ‘Special Star’, ‘Dance Some More’, ‘Hellfire’ and ‘Move Up’.

Their 1989 debut album, Mango Groove, went on to become one of SA’s biggest-selling albums of all time (well over 25-times Platinum).

Founding members Claire Johnston and John Leydon joined Azania Mosaka in studio to talk about the success of the album and to perform some of its major hits.

That album was so well received and truly no one was as surprised as we were. Those days in South Africa, we were a mixed race band doing what we did because we loved it, which was not encouraged in those days. We had singles on the radio, but never a full album and then in '89 everything crystallized.

Timing is a large part of it. In a way we were fortunate participants at a time of South Africa's history which was very significant. It was a combination of things.

The 30th anniversary show kicks off on 8 March.
