Victor Senna appointed as new acting head of IPID

The minister of police, Bheki Cele appointed a new acting head of Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on Friday. Cele appointed Victor Ofenste Senna, who was previously the Chief Financial Officer of IPID, this follows the conclusion of Robert McBride's contract as the head of IPID this past Thursday.

Senna was appointed as the CFO of IPID in February 2018, after serving as the chief director of budget and revenue at the Gauteng department of health for two years. He had also served as the general manager of finance at the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) for two years.

Due to previous experiences, there needs to be a fundamental separation between IPID and the police, and therefore the police cannot determine who should run the IPID.

There will be an interim acting head until such time that the court has decided, and then based on that they will either review the process or decision and then support it.
