They are investigating an inquest docket and trying to verify the authenticity of the video but they also want the victim to come forward, it always helps when it goes to prosecutions and also helps the investigation.— Bonga Dlulane, Reporter - EWN
What we do know right now is that there has been speculation that she is at the police station going to lay a charge but that has not been confirmed yet. Police say they are trying to locate Babes herself to see if they can try and convince her to tell them what happened exactly.— Bonga Dlulane, Reporter - EWN
National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole and Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa have both condemned the attack.
1. We're absolutley horrified by the actions of Musician Mapmpintsha @MampintshaNuz caught on video where he brutally abuses Internationally celebrated Artist @BABESWODUMO. We do not only condemn this senseless act but call on @BABESWODUMO to immediately press charges against him pic.twitter.com/K7W1cyO0aO— Min. Nathi Mthethwa (@NathiMthethwaSA) March 4, 2019
This is not the first time Maphumulo has been accused of abusing Simelane.
In an interview with Metro FM's Masechaba Ndlovu last year, Simelane was questioned about the abuse she has suffered but was unable to respond.
