Mampintsha granted bail of R 2 000, no record of counter charge

Musician Mandla 'Mampintsha' Maphumulo has been granted R 2000 bail after appearing in the Pinetown Magistrates court on Tuesday.

Maphumulo was arrested this week after assaulting his girlfriend and well known gqom artist Bongekile 'Babes Wodumo' Simelane on Sunday.

A video circulated on social media shows Maphumulo repeatedly slapping the singer.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo says Maphumulo is expected to make his second appearance in court in May.

He was arrested, charged and taken to the Pinetown Magistrates Court where he was granted bail of R 2000 and he is expected to reappear in court on a charge of assault on the 15th of May this year.

Maphumulo is said to have laid a counter charge of assault against Simelane, but Naidoo says there is no record of that.

There is a rumor that is going around, that is not true, there is no record of counter charges at this point in time. Perhaps maybe he is considering it but if and when he does then we will confirm it.
