We tend to not even look at the [Bitcoin] price…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno

Our vision is to upgrade the world to a better financial system… We’re focussing on making it really easy for people…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno

We’re planning to build a platform that a billion people will be able to use by 2030…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno

Luno (formerly BitX) is a company that helps you buy the cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Marcus Swanepoel, CEO at Luno, for his weekly “How it Works” feature.

Swanepoel cofounded Luno in 2013.

At first, it was based in Cape Town, but it has since moved its headquarters to London.

By the start of 2018, it had processed $5 billion and had more than two million customers in 40 countries.

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and scroll down for more quotes from it).

We think money can become better… People tend to disagree about how we’re going to get there and how long it will take…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno

It’s not about speculation but building a more robust financial system…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno

People still want that human element…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno

We’re a global company… A lot of people are in London, Cape Town and Singapore… We’re hiring people from Google, Amazon…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno

Customers are concentrating around high-quality platforms…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno

We self-regulate…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno

They [funders] are very deep-pocketed and patient… The business model is very sound… We don’t need that much money to build what we need to build… Naspers is still one of our large investors…

Marcus Swanepoel, CEO - Luno
