[LISTEN] Why these 20-somethings consciously chose not to register to vote

Eusebius McKaiser chats to eligible young voters who have made the active choice not to register to vote in the upcoming election.

There are 9.8 million unregistered eligible voters to in South Africa.

Eusebius chats to 23-year old Kea Rakgoadi about why she has consciously chosen not to register to vote.

I just feel within the South Africa context, as a youth, the people I am voting for don't represent me. It's much older people in their 40s, 50s and all the way to their 70s....what they are pushing forward does not represent what is going to be necessary for me and my future.

Kea Rakgoadi

The parties eligible to be voted for are all offering the same dream...offering the same empty promise...There is nothing that feels like revolutionary change. There is nothing that makes me feel inspired to be part of that change.

Kea Rakgoadi

27-year-old Anelisa Funani has also intentionally chosen not to register.

Voting is very personal. It has to reflect my highest intentions, of what I want to see in my world.

Anelisa Funani

All of the political parties and leaders represent the better devil than the other. I don't want to vote for the better devil. I want to vote for the angel. It is amazing how the political leaders just don't care about the people.

Anelisa Funani

30-year-old Ntombekhaya Xaba talked about why she also decided not to register.

Political analyst Lukhona Mnguni also weighed in on the topic of registering to vote or not.
