Tiso Blackstar workers expected to strike next week over pay

Tiso Blackstar's estimated 200 members, including journalists, are expected to embark on various forms of industrial action from 14 March over salary issues.

This follows the CCMA issuing a certificate of non-resolution on Monday saying that the dispute between the union and the company remains unresolved.

The Tiso Blackstar group owns a number of newspapers including the Sunday Times, the Financial Mail, Business Day, and The Sowetan.

Speaking on the Xolani Gwala Show, Information Communications and Technology Union's second deputy president, Origenius Mogoathle said the main issue is one of bonuses.

He argues that the company awarded bonuses to certain individuals in the organisation 'who are favourites of management.'

If Tiso Blackstar believes that the employees do not deserve bonuses, they should come forward and say so. As the ICTU we cannot allow the company to go and spend money that the workers have worked hard for and not have employees benefit for that.

Origenius Mogoathle, Second deputy president - Information Communications and Technology Union (ICTU)

This action we are taking is not about proving a point, it is about proving that every worker deserve to be respected, and their efforts need to be rewarded.
