[LISTEN] Toilet paper - how not to get a bum deal

It's an essential purchase, but have you ever considered if you're getting a good deal on toilet paper?

Even if you spent time monitoring specials and discounts, you can end up with a bum deal, explains consumer journalist Wendy Knowler.

When it comes to choice there are a lot of variables - size of each sheet, thickness, size of the cardboard core and number of the sheets.

Knowler sat down with Azania Mosaka to share her expert advice on how to make sure you're not flushing your money down the drain when it comes to this essential household item.

If you don't look beyond the retail selling price for your pack of nine or eighteen, you are likely to end up buying one of the most expensive toilet paper products on the market while actually thinking you are getting a good deal.

If you work it out per sheet it is much more expensive. Sheet for sheet is the most expensive way to buy two ply, it's misleading, so if you are buying two ply and it seems cheap, look at how many sheets you are getting. You should be getting 350. The standard is 350.
