[LISTEN] Should parents compensate children for bringing them into the world?

Do you think your parents should have thought harder about whether it is responsible for bringing a child into this world?

A 27-year-old Indian man plans to sue his parents for giving birth to him without his consent. He says it is wrong to bring children into the world because they then have to put up with lifelong suffering.

Eusebius McKaiser asked listeners whether they think parents have an extra responsibility beyond just raising a child, and have a duty to compensate the child for bringing them into this world.

I am delighted to be alive I wouldn't have been able to satisfy my thirst for knowing. I don't regret being alive at all. But in most cases when you ask people why they want to have kids, the response would normally be 'I am having kids because I am supposed to or because everyone is having kids'

Pixie, Caller

I believe that everyone has quite a cynical view on life. One has to take responsibility for their life at some stage, your life is not your parent's responsibility.

Aerie, Caller

A lot of people don't understand the burden it is to have a child. Most of my friends are divorced and I see having a major effect on their children. People do not consider how their relationship is with their partners before they start having children.
