Tips on how to run a successful (and responsible) NGO

An event organised by the Community Chest, District Six Museum and Many Cultures Cape Town will head a discussion on how NGOs should be conducted in order to best serve society and the community around them.

CEO at Community Chest WC, Lorenzo Davids says the aim of the event is to ensure that NGOs are run professionally and responsibly.

With elections coming up, we want to focus on how do we function in that space to hold both ourselves and government to run a civil space where the public can feel safe and engage.

Lorenzo Davids, CEO at Community Chest WC

Davids says NGOs are going through struggles resulting in them not occupying the civil space responsibly.

He says there are civil issues, such as clean streets and safety at schools which are not primary responsibilities of the NGOs but rather of government.

It is the responsibility of NGOs to alert government and hold it accountable to deal with these challenges, he says.

We want to help NGOs transition from the notion that "we need money" role to a role that says we are going to make you aware of this and make them understand how in partnership can best work together.

Lorenzo Davids, CEO at Community Chest WC

The event is scheduled to take place on 14 March at a Library, Paarl Boys High from 6 pm until 8 pm.
