Theatre's top acts shine at 54th Fleur du Cap awards

Theatre's finest gathered at the 54th Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town on Sunday where outstanding productions and performers were crowned.

These annual awards are seen as one of the most prestigious in the theatre scene.

Melanie Burke, the chairperson of the Fleur de Cap Theatre Awards, says there has been an incredible energy in South African theatre over the past year.

Burke made special mention of Rehane Abrahams whose exquisite performance in various roles in "Womb of Fire" won her the award for Best Performance in a Revue, Cabaret or One-Person Show.

Lukhanyiso Skosana was awarded in the category for the Best Sound Design, Original Music Composition or Original Score for creating a vocal soundscape for the same production.

At the same time, Burke gave a special nod to Lwanda Sindaphi who scooped three awards for Best New South African Script, Best New Director, and Best Performance by an Ensemble for "Kudu".

We had an incredible evening celebrating theatre... People looked spectacular and the Artscape Opera House was in its full glory.
