IEC to investigate claims that Bosasa funded ANC's elections 'war rooms'

The African National Congress (ANC) says it has noted a probe by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) into claims of a R6 million donation it is said to have received from scandal-plagued Bosasa.

It's alleged that the funds were given to the ruling party over the past elections to set up an elections war room at the company’s headquarters in Krugersdorp.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) laid the complaint. DA leader Mmusi Maimane said the ANC has contravened the Electoral Code of Conduct.

Acting national ANC spokesperson Dakota Legoete says the party is confident that the donation was above board.

It is customary at every election that the ANC raises funds and accepts donations from various quarters and enterprises like all other political parties. Bosasa donation was not any different from any of these donations.

As the African National Congress we are confident that everything we did was legal and there was no law that was broken because the law that would be broken, will come into effect from the 1st of April this year. Out of respect for the IEC process, we will not go blow by blow to account in the media at this stage.
