CapeTalk's Pippa Hudson hosted a Cyber Security Bootcamp with a live studio audience on Tuesday afternoon.

Managing director at J2 Software John McLoughlin and ConsumerTalks' Wendy Knowler weigh in on how to prevent cyber attacks.

Knowler says to do the hard work and put the checks and balances in place.

McLoughlin offers a cyber tip.

Never use 'password' as a password. And don't update your passwords with just a 1 or 2 and think that's enough.

When using free public wi-fi, McLoughlin says don’t carry out any financial transactions unless you are using a VPN.

He says when you automatically connect to a store or restaurants' wi-fi without needing a password, you put yourself at greater risk.

If your accounts are linked and you have a credit facility they can take money you haven’t spent.

Anyone who has received an invoice is a potential victim if you don’t notice an added nought.
