Alderman JP Smith admits the City has 'just about lost control of the roads' and says Llandudno is a hot spot of bad driving.

Following complaints about unruly behavior by taxi drivers in the Llandudno area, Alderman JP Smith, Mayco member for safety and security says the city is working to resolve these issues.

According to Smith, in the last six months, 64 taxis were impounded between Hout Bay and the CBD.

He says there were 3 625 fines issued for driving offences on the same route.

Citywide we have impounded 5 139 taxis, issued 59 825 fines and dealt with 22 711 PDP permit contraventions

The city is aggressively enforcing with regards to taxis.

Smith says fines issued to taxis have limited impact if they do not have access to the Provincial Traffic Act that allows them to impound for related offences.

He says traffic officers who try to enforce the law on the roads often get assaulted by taxi drivers, making it dangerous for them to do their job.

The situation is out of control. I think we just about lost control of the roads...
