Holomisa: UDM can't guarantee that it won't work with ANC after May elections

Leader of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) Bantu Holomisa says his party cannot rule out a coalition government with the ANC after the May elections.

I can't give that guarantee. If it means that I will lose votes, so be it.

Holomisa told 702's Eusebius McKaiser that there is no harm in working with the ANC and defended last year's shock coalition between the UDM, EFF and ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) municipality.

Holomisa claims that it was the DA that pushed the UDM to get into bed with the ANC in the metro and called the DA hypocrites after the DA's ousted NMB mayor Athol Trollip took him to task on-air.

It is true that we promised to get rid of the ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay but there is no harm in working with the ANC.

Holomisa says the UDM will work with any political party committed to good governance and the advancement of South Africa.

He insists that the UDM has played a critical oversight role in the opposition benches of Parliament over the past few years.

The UDM has been a key part of the secret ballot vote in Parliament, the exposure of state capture, corruption within the PIC, and the removal of tainted political leaders such as former president Jacob Zuma, he says.

Holomisa maintains that the UDM has proved itself when it comes to holding the executive accountable and believes that this will pay off at the ballot box in May.

The UDM has established itself on a number of issues in the last few years... I suspect that the voters will look at us seriously this time around.

We have proved that we have been consistent.

He answered other tough questions about the economy, the UDM's coalition in NMB and the leadership of Mongameli Bobani in the metro.
