Political analyst Kagiso Pooe says the survey is surprising when you compare it to the ANC's internal poll.

Pooe says while the former president cannot be constrained to certain areas, the ANC's strategy has aimed to limit Zuma's campaigning to places where he is most popular.

Their bigger strategy has been to just try and limit the former president to areas.
