[LISTEN] 'There is something that the NPA is not telling us'
There has been some speculation surrounding the release of Harry Gwala district mayor Mluleki Ndobe and one of his co accused, Zweliphansi Skhosana.
The National Prosecuting Authority has decided to provisionally with charges against against the pair, in the murder case of African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) general secretary Sindiso Magaqa.
Magaqa died in hospital in September 2017 after he was shot in Umzimkhulu.
Political analyst Protas Madlala says while the NPA has often provisionally withdrawn charges, something is amiss.
There is something which the NPA is not telling us. You cannot accuse a person of a mayor's caliber and keep that person incarcerated for 8 days and suddenly say there is not enough evidence. There is something, it is either yes that is the case but why did you arrest the person in the first place?Protas Madlala, Political Analyst
It makes us suspicious, was there perhaps some interference at a political level to say , please look the other way around and release this man.Protas Madlala, Political Analyst
From what we have seen over the last ten years, I don't think the cleansing of the judiciary or all pubic institutions is a complete project, it has not even begun. You keep someone for eight days and suddenly say you don't have enough evidence, that raises some alarm bells and creates more suspicion and uncertainty.Protas Madlala, Political Analyst
