Table for one? Callers open up about dining solo (and why it shouldn't be weird)
Are you comfortable eating out by yourself?
This is the question that 702's Eusebius McKaiser put out to his listeners.
He says eating alone is an underrated experience which he often enjoys while being captivated by a good book.
There are times when eating alone can be a form of self-care. It's just you and your thoughts, which you shouldn't be scared of.Eusebius McKaiser, 702 presenter
He asked listeners if they also enjoyed their own company and some called in to comment on solo dining and solo dates.
Even his predecessor and fellow broadcaster, Redi Tlhabi, phoned in to share her views!
I am tempted to kneel down and pray for people who don't wine and dine by themselves. I have full on meals by myself. I just came back from Tashas to have brunch.Redi Tlhabi, media personality
One year for my birthday I took the day off work and treated myself. I spent the day on my own and had such a great time.Mabetha, caller
I used to be anxious about going out alone until I got a job that forces me to travel a lot. Now, I'm so comfortable with eating alone and do it on the regular.Kokesto, caller
The discussion also prompted several responses on Twitter. Here's what some listeners had to say:
I am very comfortable being alone, I go out to eat alone and a go to the movies alone a lot and when I do some people have peculiar expression on their faces.😎— HedwiG (@_dramine) March 26, 2019
I feel uncomfortable and uneasy but my girlfriend said I must get over it and start doing things on my own or miss out on experiences because I'm waiting for someone to go with me— favored canary (@Tell_A_tale_88) March 26, 2019

@Eusebius eating alone is my favorite😋😋😋it’s tiring to always ask people to join you, so being with self is healthy...😉— Refilwe Given Motshwane🌻🎀💫 (@RefilweGiven1) March 26, 2019

I've gone to whole foreign countries alone. Self-awareness is good, functional since we don't exist on islands - but too much of it may create an over reliance on external contact and stimuli which is self-limiting tbh. https://t.co/ZlEg7FrBzF— Selabe (@selabae_) March 26, 2019
