Sars panel member Ismail Momoniat outlines the appointment process of Edward Kieswetter as the new Sars Commissioner.

A special commission set up by President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Edward Kieswetter as the new Sars Commissioner.

Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies, one of the members of the Sars commissioner appointment panel, Ismail Momoniat highlights the process that led to the appointment of Kieswetter.

He says the panel made recommendations to the president who then made the final appointment decision.

Momoniat says Sars still has a long way to go until it can restore its 2014 glory.

But Momoniat denies this.

The steps we followed were exactly as the Nugent Commission outlined.
