Animal abusers must be reported, pleads SPCA

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has stressed that all animal abusers need to be brought to book.

CEO Moyo Ndukwana says animal cruelty of any kind cannot be condoned.

Ndukwana explains that there are two categories of animal abuse; active and passive.

Active abuse describes premeditated acts of violence on animals while passive abuse describes instances of neglect.

Ndukwana argues that persons especially involved in forms of active animal abuse need to be prosecuted.

He encourages the public to report animal abuse to SPCA inspectors who can help open a case at the South African Police Service (Saps).

Ndukwana believes that humans are responsible for seeking justice on behalf of animals who cannot speak for themselves.

Cruelty is cruelty. I don't believe in covering it up.

Moyo Ndukwana, CEO - Cape of Good Hope SPCA

It does not matter how long a case takes, we will see it through the end.

The courts are the ultimate arbiter. We are not the prosecutors. Our job is to take the matter through the legal system.

Earlier this week, a Cape Town resident told CapeTalk of how their dog had been shot by a disgruntled neighbour.

CapeTalk is following up on the individual details of the matter.
