The job is so huge. I have no time for distractions - Edward Kieswetter

The job is so huge. I have no time for distractions [when asked about attacks by the EFF].

Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner - Sars

I understand the important role that Sars plays… We’ve seen a decline… When trust in the revenue service goes, so does compliance… I’m under no illusion that it’s going to be a tough challenge…

Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner - Sars

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni on Thursday formally introduced Edward Kieswetter as the newly appointed Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (Sars).

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced Kieswetter’s appointment early in the evening on Wednesday.

The new commissioner will start work on 1 May.

Advocacy group Right2Know, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) have voiced concerns about what they say is a lack of transparency in the process of Kieswetter’s selection.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Kieswetter.
