[WATCH] Unplugged: South African tenor Levy Sekgapane on April gala performance

The fourth edition of Opera Jewels will see award-winning tenor Levy Sekgapane return to the South African stage.

The event takes place at the Teatro, Montecasino, on 3 April.

Sekgapane's last performance in Johannesburg was alongside soprano Pretty Yende in the inaugural concert of this series in 2016.

He joined Azania Mosaka in studio to share details about the event and what he's been up to.

I feel so blessed to be traveling all the time , it is very tiring but it is my hobby and my hobby is my job. Right now I am based in Munich, Germany.

We have to speak the languages, Italian is the main one everyone has to speak - it is the universal language. Most of the opera was written in Italian and you have got to show the culture, that is why we have to live there a couple of months to see how people live and the natural temperament of Italians.

It is very competitive, there are a lot of opera singers and the ones who have made it all have a story to tell. It's not an easy road but once you get there, you just have to enjoy it.
