Myburgh defends his explosive book on the alleged corruption by Ace Magashule

Journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh has released a new book titled Gangster State - Unravelling Magashule's Web of Capture.

Read: The State Security Agency was completely captured by Zuma, journo explains

The book details how the African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashula allegedly used undemocratic means to cling to power in the Free State.

Myburgh discusses the book with CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies.

If you historically track Magashule's career in the ANC and his alignment with the Zuma faction around 2014, that was at a phase of Zuma's career where accusations of corruption came to the fore.

Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Author - Gangster State - Unravelling Magashule's Web of Capture

That is where the early indications of this power block formed around President Jacob Zuma that they called the 'premier league' which included Ace Magashule, Supra Mahumapelo, and DD Mabuza.

Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Author - Gangster State - Unravelling Magashule's Web of Capture

He adds that there has been long-running support for the former president from Magushule's camp.

Magashule's block played a very large role in trying to get the Nkosazana Dlamini- Zuma slate elected to the top position in Nasrec. They failed but Magashule walked away with a position of SG.

The ANC has dismissed the claims made in Myburgh's book, calling it fake news.

He responds, saying his same journalistic principles applied when he was investigating this book as any other aspect of his journalism, adding he has documents that support the allegations made against Magashule.

At this point, it has become a very predictable stance by the ANC as each time some of their members or prominent leaders are found to be involved in curious dealings; they resort to the Stratcom argument.
