Outgoing Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says he will be leaving the utility at the end of April.

Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe on Friday announced that he is leaving the utility after working as its spokesperson for a decade.

Phasiwe talks to Ray White on The Xolani Gwala Show about his decision..

I have been working for Eskom for five years as the national spokesperson, but I have worked for 10 years at the organisation.

Khulu Phasiwe, Outgoing spokesperson - Eskom

I did what I could, but I believe that I have run my race and I have completed the course and therefore it is time for me to focus on other things.

Khulu Phasiwe, Outgoing spokesperson - Eskom

Phasiwe did not divulge where what his next move will be.

At this stage, I just wanted to take some time out, detox and recharge before I plan the next move.

Khulu Phasiwe, Outgoing spokesperson - Eskom

But there are certain things that I am looking into but nothing is concrete at this stage.

Khulu Phasiwe, Outgoing spokesperson - Eskom

Phasiwe says the new testimony emerging from the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture is not information of which he was aware.

It looks like some of these decisions were taken outside formal structures and I was not privy to those meetings and therefore I would have nothing to offer.

Khulu Phasiwe, Outgoing spokesperson - Eskom

He says he was only present at formal structures such as exco meetings and board meetings.

If the commission requires my services in terms of explaining some of the decisions taken in formal meetings, then in those cases I will be able to do so.

Khulu Phasiwe, Outgoing spokesperson - Eskom

He adds that he would be available to speak to the commission about Eskom's relationship with Trillion and payments made.

There was a formal meeting and what we heard there was that Eskom didn't make any payments to this company but it ultimately turned out that Eskom did make payments despite the fact that they didn't have a contract with us.

Khulu Phasiwe, Outgoing spokesperson - Eskom

Those are some of the things that if I am required to go to the commission, I will go there and set the scene and explain my role and my involvement in terms of the things that I might have said in the public.
