Dirco holds follow-up meeting with African ambassadors over KZN xenophobia

African ambassadors are seeminly unimpressed with South Africa's attempts to curb xenophobic attacks in the country.

An urgent meeting between International Relations Minister Lindiwe Sisulu , Police Minister Bheki Cele and ambassadors of African countries continued in Pretoria on Friday.

The meeting follows last week's xenophobic attacks in KwaZulu-Natal.

While Sisulu has yet to brief the media on the outcomes of the meeting, it is understood that ambassadors have complained about the poor documentation of their citizens.

Eyewitness News (EWN) Africa Correspondent Jean-Jacques Cornish is in Pretoria.

Ambassadors are complaining that citizens do not get documented quickly enough and applications are not processed.

Jean-Jacques Cornish, Africa Correspondent - EWN

We have not yet had the ministers come out to brief us. Lindiwe Sisulu promised us on Monday when they first met the ambassadors that there would be a grand plan and many have raised the point that yes it is enough to have plans but in 2008 we had scores of deaths and have had frequent xenophobic attacks since then.

Jean-Jacques Cornish, Africa Correspondent - EWN

There is a great deal of resentment and a great deal of embarrassment you can imagine, on the part of government.
