Man accused of rape, murder of Elim girl (6) abandons bail bid

The Elim man accused of the rape and murder of six-year-old Delvina Europa has abandoned his bail application.

Reagan Zietsman appeared in the Bredasdorp Magistrates Court on Monday morning, where his case was postponed to 6 May for further investigation.

Zietsman was arrested shortly after the girl’s body was found late last month, reports EWN's Lauren Isaacs.

The girl's body was found among bushes behind a school in the area days after her aunt reported her missing.

She was last seen on Sunday the 24th of March. People in the community saw her walking with the accused into a bushy area.

Residents protested outside the court with posters reading "Stop child abuse" and handed two petition's to the court asking for the accused's bail to be denied.

A community worker in the area told EWN that the murder of this young girl has opened up all wounds.

Delvina is the fifth minor to have been murdered in the region since Bredasdorp teenager Anene Booysen was raped and killed in 2013.
