US president Donald Trump has announced the resignation of Homeland security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
Nielsen was responsible for the enforcement of the controversial border policies meant to keep migrant workers out, including the pending construction of the wall between Mexico and the USA.
Trump has made many changes in his administration with Nielsen being the latest to leave.
In a Twitter post, Trump thanked Nielsen for her service.

Professor of International Relations at the University of Witwatersrand John Stremlau speaks to Ray White on The Xolani Gwala Show and says it is very hard to understand what is happening in the Trump administration.
The one thing you can be certain about Donald Trump is that he is an ethnic nationalist and he ran on a platform to make America great again for white Americans and what we are seeing with this border wall is an amplification of his immigration issue which he thinks is critical to his getting re-elected.— Professor John Stremlau, International relations professor - Wits University
Nielsen was controversial and more moderate than Donald Trump and there has been a huge turnaround in his administration and she is latest to leave.— Professor John Stremlau, International relations professor - Wits University
He adds that it is hard to know who is still in Trump's corner as he has been through three national security advisors.
The first of whom, Micheal Flynn is going to jail, he has been through other cabinet officers, some of whom have been forced out of their offices.— Professor John Stremlau, International relations professor - Wits University
