2019 South African general election: Analysis and News

Take a listen to some of the small and newer parties election promises

The IEC has registered 48 parties that will contest the 2019 national elections in May.

Some analysts argue that the small parties may put a dent in the African National Congress's (ANC) long-standing support base.

The Socialist Revolutionary Workers Party's (SRWP) new Gauteng chair, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola outlines the party's plans to Ray White on The Xolani Gwala Show.

Our message is simple. The only way that the majority of people should be able to access democracy and equality is through the disruption of a capitalist system. Our role as SRWP is to establish a democratic socialist state for the interest and the benefit of the working class.

Phakamile Hlubi-Majola - SRWP

Another political party contesting the upcoming elections is the African Renaissance Unity (ARU) led by Leonard Sekhukhune.

ARU was formed by a collective of traditional leaders. We know what the people need because we exist and stay in rural areas. We believe the ANC government has failed the people by promising them everything they couldn't deliver for the past 25 years.

Leonard Sekhukhune - ARU

White also spoke to the National Freedom Party (NFP) which prides itself on having started a programme providing Grade 12 learners an opportunity to obtain drivers licences.

Given an opportunity, because we have a high rate of unemployed graduates, we would work with government departments to put those youths in the departments so that they gain skills needed to be fully employed.

Nontuthuzelo Mniki - NFP

Other parties who outlined their election manifestos is the ACDP, EcoForum and Women Forward.
