ANCYL FS agree to call off burning of 'Gangster State' book

The national African National Youth League (ANCYL) has distanced itself from the _Gangster State book _launch protests.

The launch held at Exclusive Books in Sandton was disrupted by a group of people claiming to be ANC Secretary- General, Ace Magashule's supporters.

The controversial book by Pieter-Louis Myburgh looks at the corruption that took place while Magashule was the Premier of the Free State.

Magashule has himself condemned the actions of the demonstrators, saying the chaos caused was not in his name.

The ANC Youth League in the Free State said it would burn copies of the book at a dumping site in Mangaung on Monday.

ANCYL Secretary-General, Njabulo Nzuza says however he has been in engagements with the provincial secretary and the burning of books has been called off.

We subscribe to principles of the ANC and the rule of democracy, as such burning books and disrupting events just because you disagree with what is contained in that particular public material is not the right thing to do.

Njabulo Nzuza, ANCYL - SG

They have retracted the statement, I can assure you that there won't be any further issues that has to do with the burning of books. We have talked to them and we have agreed that these activities must not happen.

Njabulo Nzuza, ANCYL - SG

However we are concerned and stand with the SG of the ANC to say that he must take the issue for legal review because there are inconsistencies in the book.
