Largest online history project in Africa seeks crowdfunding

SA History Online is a non-profit organisation established in 2000, to redress the bias in the way South Africa’s and Africa’s history and heritage, was represented under colonialism and apartheid.

CEO Omar Badsha speaks to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies about the importance of its crowdfunding campaign.

It is the largest history and educational project on the African continent with over 6 million users.

The site was established to popularise a new history, he explains.

You need to be able to reflect on your past. Make sure people understand the complexity of every moment in history and not just the victor's point of view.

Omar Badsha, CEO - SA History Online

In the beginning, we said, who are we directing this history too? We identified young people.

It was the first resource in South Africa to use the internet for educational purposes.

The project is crowdfunding to help sustain itself and not be tied to any interest groups.
