Situation still tense in Lwandle, police confirm
Khayelitsha residents have brought the township to a standstill since Thursday morning demanding service delivery in the area.
Western Cape police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana says several roads have been closed and the situation a bit tense as thousands of people are participating in a protest, particularly in Lwandle.
Public order police have arrested eight people for inciting violence.
We are on the scene and we do appeal to those who are participating in the protest to act within the law. We will remain on the ground until law and order is restored in the area.
Noloyiso Rwexana, Spokesperson - Western Cape Saps
Although the Western Cape government denies that these are service delivery protests, Rwexana has confirmed that they are linked.
