Intimate relationships aren't always rosy, and in reality can be emotionally painful and traumatic.
You simply cannot escape relationship trauma, which can apply to friends, family or lovers, says clinical sexologist and relationship expert Dr Eve.
Though it's often expected for relationships to be safe, they can sometimes leave you feeling lonely, scared, anxious, angry and sad.
Relationships are filled with high moods of joy and low moods of dis-ease, she explains.
Dr Eve says your relationship may be filled with too much trauma if it leaves you feeling the following ways:
- disconnected from myself
- disconnected from my partner
- disconnected from others in my world
- unmanageable stress around my partner
- unable to control my emotions
- unable to control my behaviour
- emotionally violated
- little self value
- emotionally unsafe
- physically ill
