McBride accuses Nhleko of interfering with investigations

Former Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) head Robert McBride accused ex-police minister Nhleko of interfering with investigations. This is with regard to the Zimbabwe rendition case.

EWN reporter Barry Bateman says Mcbride told the commission how the case was investigated by Ipid and how it led to the suspension of former Hawks boss Anwa Dramat and his Gauteng commander Shadrack Sibiya.

McBride says he ruled differently after the investigation was concluded and submitted a second report absolving Dramat and Sibiya. But Nhleko outsourced oversight responsibility by appointing international firm Werksmans Attorneys to investigate the matter.

He says the minister instructed Ipid investigators personally to co-operate with Werksmans in their investigation.

Ultimately, the report was used against McBride and other investigators to have them fired and got rid of them out of the organisation.

He testified about how the minister interfered in an independent investigation, a cooked job to ensure that McBride is removed from his position.

Bateman says McBride looked angry as he testified because he was suspended for 18 months because of this matter.

One of the things that really burnt him is that when he asked to address parliament's portfolio committee about the rendition he was told no because the matter was before the courts.

However, the portfolio committee did allow the minister Nhleko to come and address them on the gsame issue.
