ANC representatives a no-show at Jhb mayor's meeting with Alex councillors
A meeting between Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba and Alexandra councillors from different political parties is under way with no African National Congress (ANC) representative in sight.
The meeting follows a series of service delivery protests in the area.
Eyewitness News' (EWN) Ahmed Kajee reports that council speaker Vasco da Gama says they've been in contact with ANC councillors but have received no feedback.
The important thing is five Economic Freedom Fighters councillors have come through, as well as the MMCS for finance, development planning, infrastructure as well as public safety.Ahmed Kajee, Reporter - EWN
Da Gama called for all political parties to put their differences aside and work for the people of South Africa and Alexandra specifically.Ahmed Kajee, Reporter - EWN
Kajee says Mashaba emphasised the fact that ANC councillors did not show up for the meeting.
He also happened to provide a bit of background, referring to the situation and the government he had inherited from the ANC all the way back to 2016. He is really hoping that things work for the better going forward.Ahmed Kajee, Reporter - EWN
Mashaba is scheduled to visit Alexandra to meet the community on Monday.
