Callers say Magashule's actions 'despicable' and 'chronic case of buying votes'
African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule has come under fire for his 'donation' to a Philippi resident in the Western Cape.
Magashule was recorded opening the potential voter's fridge, whom he had visited during a door-to-door campaign, and then giving her R400.
Magashule could be fined or face jail time should he be found guilty of flouting the Electoral Code of Conduct.
Callers on the open line condemned his actions.
What Magashule did was the lowest form of infiltration and abuse of a poor person.Eve, Caller
One caller named Doctor says what Magashule did is morally wrong.
Brian also agreed with Doctor's views and says Magashule did this deliberately.
This issue of Magashule giving that woman R400 is unacceptable. I think he did that on purpose knowing that the ANC can't touch him because he seems to be in charge of the ANC.Brian, Caller
On the other hand, Neil says when he watched the video of Magashule it felt like he was watching the trailer of Despicable Me 3.
It is the lowest form of electioneering I have ever seen. It is a chronic case of buying votes.Neil, Caller
Seriously, in which world is looking into someone’s fridge, loudly stating ‘akho kudla la’, & subjecting a person to the indignity of accepting R400 for food in front of cameras? Ace Magashule is a cretin.— Nomboniso Gasa (@nombonisogasa) April 13, 2019
Im no Ace Magashule fan, but id have done what he did. You cant just walk away from an old lady with an empty fridge, by giving her a meer R400.— Thabiso Kotane (@Thabisoo) April 14, 2019
Some twisted people are angry that Cde @Magashule_Ace gave R400 to a struggling Mother to feed her Family, intead of encouraging other politicians to do the same, they're wasting their 400mb of Data trying to explain the wrong in What Ace did. I dont understand why people are making a fuss about Magashule giving a needy woman R400. I don't see a problem with what he did. #AceMagashule— ofentse mary (@ofentsefentse16) April 15, 2019
