Zondo Commission denies Moyane permission to cross-examine Gordhan

Former South African Revenue Service (Sars) commissioner Tom Moyane has been denied permission to cross-examine Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan at the state capture commission.

Deputy Justice Raymond Zondo said Moyane's application did not comply with the rules of the commission.

Eyewitness News senior reporter Barry Bateman says Zondo explained that an implicated party needs to identify which part of a witness statement they deny or dispute when applying to cross-examine.

Tom Moyane did not identify anywhere in his statements or replying affidavit where exactly he was implicated by Pravin Gordhan in wrongdoing.

Nor did he argue why it is necessary for him to be allowed to cross-examine and why it is in the interest of the commission to allow the cross-examination.

Gordhan testified at the commission in November last year where he told the commission details of the breakdown of the relationship between him and Moyane.
