2019 South African general election: Analysis and News

'DA is frivolous and petty' for removing Good Party posters

Good Party secretary general, Brett Herron, has responded to accusations that the party violated the Electoral Act by not displaying the name of the publisher on its election posters.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) was allegedly seen removing the streetlamp posters arguing they don't display the name of the publisher and printer as required by the IEC.

Herron admitted that its party posters should have had the name of the publisher and printers displayed but says the move by the DA is a clear sign of fear.

I think it is frivolous and petty that they went to the lengths they did.

For me, it seems like there is a confession that there is some competition for them in the Western Cape because they only lodged a complaint for the Western Cape posters.

It is a legal requirement and yes we overlooked it.

Herron says it has engaged with the IEC and there was an agreement that the party can put a sticker on the posters identifying the publisher.

He says the party has been receiving good support on the ground.
