DA has three days to apologise to De Lille over spreading misinformation
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has ordered the Democratic Alliance (DA) to publicly apologise to former Cape Town Mayor Patrica De Lille for spreading misinformation about her.
This comes after the IEC ruled in De Lille's favour following charges she laid against the DA for spreading lies about her.
DA canvassers were instructed to tell voters that the former mayor was fired from the party because of corruption at the City of Cape Town when she in fact resigned.
Eyewitness News reporter Jason Felix has more on the story.
According to De Lille it will have to be a written public apology, with the possibility that they might have to publish some sort of pamphlet and distribute that.Jason Felix, Reporter - EWN
The merits of how this will be applied is very unclear. The IEC's ruling says the DA needs to desist from making claims and spreading lies about De Lille and her Good Party.Jason Felix, Reporter - EWN
They have three days to comply with the order. The DA has already said that they are taking this decision on review and are going to challenge it in court.Jason Felix, Reporter - EWN
