People seem to care more about Notre Dame fire than human suffering - callers

Callers on The Eusebius McKaiser Show discuss how Europeans rallied behind Notre-Dame fire more than they did after Cyclone Idai.

France is vowing to rebuild the Notre-Dame Cathedral after it was badly damaged in a massive fire on Monday.

Some callers on The Eusebius McKaiser Show question why Africans did not band together and help victims of Mozambique's Cyclone Idai as Europeans are doing for the cathedral.

How is it possible that the French, the whole of Europe, can support a building that has so much history versus the death of human beings in Mozambique?

Gustaf, Caller

If Europeans as a group can support one another for the Notre-Dame Cathedral, I ask myself, why Africans couldn't come together to help the people of Mozambique?

Gustaf, Caller

Europeans stand united whenever one of them has a problem. Why is it that African nations can't do this?

Gustaf, Caller

Eusebius agrees.

What is worse, is that Europeans are helping each other over a thing, a building. They are rallying around history, architecture, and culture.

Eusebius McKaiser, Presenter

Another caller, Chad, noted that the yellow vests protests did not garner the world's attention in the same way.

It seems that people didn't care about that, I didn't see it on any mainstream media. It just seems to me that people care about a building more than they do about their fellow men.

Chad, Caller
