Ray White interviews McLaughlin, about three months after she shot to fame for taking on the alleged copycat, Woolworths.

It was word-of-mouth to start… I made 10 and gave them to people to try… If a mom finds something that works for her, she’ll tell all the other moms!

It was either taking them on in court… Or it was go to social media… It was a very well thought out strategy… The fact that they’ve been caught out before [worked in her favour]…

Shannon McLaughlin, Ubuntu Baba Baby Carrier

Back in January when Shannon McLaughlin blogged about how Woolworths seemingly copied her Ubuntu Baba Baby Carrier, she expected social media to notice.

And notice it did!

Woolies, feeling the pressure, admitted striking similarities and pulled theirs from the shelves.

It has since donated profits it made from selling its carriers to poor communities.

Ray White (in for Bruce Whitfield on The Money Show) interviewed McLaughlin for the weekly “ShapeShifter” feature.

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and scroll down for more quotes from it).

I saw a gap… I’ve been a serial entrepreneur my whole life… I knew if I could make it work for myself I’ll turn it into a business… I knew I had something good…

I was a web designer, so it was easy for me to set up a website in no time…
