(Click here for more "The Science Of" articles.)

Retail involves the selling of goods and/or services to customers through various distribution channels in order to make a profit.

Retail includes physical stores as well as those found online.

A retailer is the shop or service provider that meets the needs of its customers or clients.

Retail trade contributes about 16 percent to total GDP in South Africa, up from 14.4 percent in in 1970.

Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Massmart (Game, Dion and others), Spar and Woolworths are the largest retailers in South Africa.
