CT-Hong Kong direct: Cathay Pacific to re-introduce popular seasonal flight

In 2018, Cathay Pacific introduced a non-stop flight between Cape Town and Hong Kong during the peak holiday season from November to February.

The airline's set to re-introduce the flight in summer this year.

Ashish Kapur, country manager for South Africa and Indian Ocean at Cathay Pacific tells Kieno Kammies the first run proved that the route adds value to the airline and its network.

Africa is a very important continent for us and it is helping expand our footprint into Africa and especially South Africa.

Cape Town is a fast growing tourist market and also business market. It is definitely one of the most promising routes which we have recently launched.

Further adding value to the route, says Kapur, is carrying cargo ranging from electronics and clothing to lobsters.

Cargo is also a very important part of our flights... we saw a lot of cargo in the belly of our aircraft which also helps business.

Cathay Pacific is aiming towards a year-round service.

I definitely see a potential for bigger business travel on this route.
