2019 South African general election: Analysis and News

Who will be the big winners and losers in elections 2019?

Ahead of the 2019 national elections, former ANC MP and author Melanie Verwoerd looks at potential gains and losses among the major parties.

The Institute of Race Relations on Monday published its final pre-election poll which provides a snapshot of how things might turn out.

According to Verwoerd, the ANC will go above 50% but it might suffer a loss that will put the party below 62% which it got during the 2014 elections.

She looked at the DA as well as the EFF's predictions.

There's been a decline in the ANC's big support everywhere in the big cities, not so much in the rural areas but almost in all the provinces.

The DA, in almost all the polls, will be around the 20% mark.

This is actually a problem for Mmusi Maimane because he said they are going to get 30% - that was his KPI.

EFF will actually grow, there is no question about it but the question remains by how much because no poll has given them above 16%, which is three times what they got last time.
