IEC says it's all systems go for Wednesday's elections

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it is all systems go for Wedsndays national eleections, with 11 000 officials ready to commence their work on the day.

Voting will take place from 7am until 9pm but people will still be allowed to cast their votes if they remain in the queues after hours.

Eyewitness News reporter Clement Manyathela attended a media briefing as voters are set to make their mark.

The IEC has urged people not to disrupt the voting process as it is a crime to do so.

They want South Africans to use tomorrow to celebrate 25 years of our democracy by ensuring that there is a peaceful election.

The commission has also raised concerns around certain technicalities that have occurred over Monday and Tuesday during the special voting.

They have also touched on concerns at the various voting stations during the special voting. Earlier on there was a report that the IEC has taken a decision to remove one of its deputy officers in Benoni because he allowed a party agent to help in the transfer of the special votes to the ballot box.

A lot of people have complained that some voting stations do not have these double envelopes where we are supposed to put our ballot papers before we put them in the ballot box. They have started an investigation to see which voting stations have been affected.
